Rhyming with Reason

When it comes to management where do I start
so much to talk about so this is the hard part.
From Planning to decisions and teams to trust
Its a lot to learn, but these are a must
Who would have thought you can learn planning from a egg,
From the looks of the slide i thought you were pulling my leg.
we have to manage school, work and let alone money
Life can be hard and not always sweet like honey.
Effective managers should be at the top of their game,
and have emotional intelligence cause its not all the same.
so many ways to deal with the problems at hand,
some choose to withdraw and try to disband.
These are a few things i learned this semester,
or maybe the only stuff my memory could muster.
Its one thing for sure professor, you are one of a kind
you taught us class could be fun and not just dull our mind.
I would recommend you to my friends in the drop of a dime,
I'm kinda sad its all over, i had a great time.

Where Does The Time Go??

We live in one of the fastest moving cities in the world; NYC. Everyday life overloads our agendas to the point that when our vacation time comes, we usually run as far away from NY as possible. So how can we manage this fast moving life better. The answer is simple...Management of time(Planning). People are usually so scatter brained that they hustle to do everything at the last minute. But little do they know that application of a little management principal to the way they handle time can significantly make their life easier.

Let's try to put this into perspective. For instance, lets use a college student because they seem to have a lot on their plate. we can use the planning principals from management to implement a plan of attack. Step 1: "Define your goals and objective; Know where you want to go; understand your deadlines. Be specific enough so that you will know you have arrived when you get there and/or how far off you are along the way". -----If we know what we have to do and whats our time limit, it can help us frame the situation at hand. Step 2: "Determine your resources and current status vis-รก-vis objectives Know where you stand in reaching the objectives from the start; identify resources, group strengths that work in your favor and group weaknesses that can hold you back". -----If we know what resources we have at hand, strengths and weakness, than we can more effectively prioritize. Step 3: "Develop several alternative strategies Generate alternative scenarios for what may happen; identify for each scenario things that may help or hinder progress toward your objectives. Evaluate alternatives to assess strengths and weaknesses of each".---In this city, things always come up, so its good to have alternatives in case this happens. Step 4: "Make a tactical plan Choose the action alternative most likely to accomplish your objectives".----Now that we generated Alternatives, we can choose the one to best accommodate our schedule. (the others can be kept as back up)

"Step 5: Implement the plan and evaluate results: Take the planned action; measure progress toward objectives as implementation proceeds; take corrective actions and revise plan as needed".---Now that this semesters over, we can go back and look at how satisfied we are with the results.

In this time strained city(let alone world), management of time is crucial. Sometimes it can even be the difference between success and failure. So lets not be one of those students or people that show up on the deadlines with some mediocre document in their hand claiming they didn't have enough time to do it. Remember, its all about management.

To Blog or Not To Blog

Well this has been the first class I've ever been required to write a blog. Now what do i think about this blog experience? I actually enjoyed posting the blog assignments. At first i thought to myself this is just another waste of time. But as time progressed and we did more blogs, i was able to see the relevance it had to our class and it actually became fun. It allows you to interact with your classmates and exchange ideas. It also allows you to show a little creativity in your work. So what do i think about the blogs now? I say its a keeper. It attained all the goals the professor set and more. And probably had it not been for the blogs, some people would have never spoke. So the blog idea is pure gold.

P.S.-It sure beats writing a paper :)

This is who I am!!!

Ive thought about the diagnostic we did in class several times since it occurred. Could a simple test describe who i am? According to the diagnostic, I am a C-high D. This states that my personality type primarily constitutes conscientousness. This means that i work within a given environment, and overcome problems analytically and systematically to accomplish results. Also that i choose a more indirect approach to dealing with conflict. The second highest personality trait is described as dominance. This would describe me as the type who shapes the environment by overcoming opposition to accomplish results. Now, do these two personality types describe me. Surprisingly yes. I like to think about my given situation at hand and that's where i choose my course of action. When objectives are clearly defined i find it easier to perform. According to the guidelines, this and some of my other traits clearly constitutes a conscientiousness personality. I also see how i could have a high Dominance personality as well. I like to get immediate results for my efforts, love challenges, and making quick decisions.

Do i wish i were another personalty type. No way. I feel that knowing who i am and what i want is my deadliest weapon. I'm happy with who i am and that's all that matters. My personality traits have worked well for me so far and i wouldn't change it for anything in the world.

After visiting some of my classmates blogs, the validity of this test was reinforced several times over. One of my classmates by the name of Angel was labeled as a dominant type. After spending most of the semester listening to what he says, he would definitely appear as a dominance personality. He displays several times his ability to overcome opposition from the class to get results. My other classmate Sumandeep has a personality diagnostic identical to mine which is C high D. She shares the same understanding i have that we need to work within a given environment to ensure quality and accuracy in what we do. The last visit i paid to was to my classmate Herman. He had a Dominance personality to lead the way. The truth behind this was emphasised when he overcame opposition from the class to claim to 10 extra points for the second midterm. He spouted nonstop ideas to get his ideas on paper and ultimately the one that declared him the winner.

So after all this, i would say this diagnostic can generally assess a persons personality quite effectively. Although a persons personality cannot be simplified to the point where every aspect is catered for, it does get the gist. I give this test two thumbs up!!
